Dragonwyck Farm Bird Calls

All the calls posted here were made using the RecForge app and a Samsung cellphone in Magoebaskloof .The quality of the sound is amazingly good considering the equipment used. Use these recordings to help identify our elusive forest birds.

A typical first light chorus of birds from below the main house. Chorister Robin-Chat and Cape White-Eyes dominant.

Black-fronted Bush-Shrike

Black-fronted Bush-Shrike. This skaaa call is usually made at random intervals. The Yellow-streaked Greenbul is calling in the background.

Orange Ground Thrush

To spot the OGT, you need to get into the forest early in the morning.


Brown Scrub-Robin

Very difficult to see. Mostly heard.

Bar-throated Apalis

The Apalis and Camaroptera are sometimes confused but these recordings should help to separate them easily.
